Relatively new to the design and manufacturing side of Aztec Tents, Molly Miller has already logged more than 10 years in the special events industry. While interning during college summers with the National Basketball Association and various other sports management agencies, Molly developed a passion for the fast pace and high energy of the special event business. Upon graduating in 2001 from the University of Southern California, she accepted a job as project manager for Aztec Tents and Events, later acquired by Classic Party Rental. In that role, Molly coordinated and supervised the installation of major sporting events. Among others, these included: the ESPN X Games from 2002 - 2008, the USGA’s 2008 and 2009 U.S. Open Championships at Torrey Pines, and Bethpage Black; the 2008 PGA Championship at Oakland Hills; several NASCAR Nextel Cup races and numerous USTA Tennis Tournaments between 2002 and 2009.
After Hurricane Ike, Molly traveled to Galveston and Houston, Texas, where she spent time over-seeing the set up of four temporary shelters at various hospitals and satellite locations in the area. “I saw the tremendous benefits tents can provide amidst extreme devastation”, she said. “I also gained an appreciation of how diverse this industry is. It really brings everything full circle and makes you feel proud to be part of such a dynamic business.” During that same period, Molly completed a Master of Arts degree in Sports Management from the University of San Francisco in 2006.
Ready to explore other aspects of the special events industry, Molly decided to focus on tent manufacturing and sales. As the Regional Account Manager for Southern California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and Colorado, she alternates her time between Aztec’s Torrance California headquarters and traveling to see her accounts throughout the southwest. Molly still enjoys helping customers put together important events. “What I love most about this industry is being involved in the fun times and celebrations in people’s lives,” she said. Molly feels fortunate to work with the team that Aztec has put together. “I have found great friends here that I respect and learn from each day,” she says. “I think that is a pretty special thing.”
