Customer Spotlight: Mark Clawson, Diamond Event

Diamond Event & Tent has served the Utah area for over 40 years, understanding all the details that go into planning an unforgettable event. With a team that’s committed to a strong foundation of professionalism, experience and customer service, Diamond Event and Tent will help bring your vision to life, while meeting your deadlines and budget.

What have been the main factors behind Diamond Event’s success throughout the years?

At Diamond we’ve been able to maintain continuity and focus through high growth years, recession years, ownership changes, corporate restructurings and even a few low-key and calm years that were thrown into the mix. In the past, we’ve had private equity financial partners; we’ve had a sister company that was a chain of equipment rental stores; and we’ve had the ups and downs of the inevitable financial cycles. Through it all, our company has grown consistently over a long period. We’ve had a lot of stability in our core team and in our business model. Some people have argued that you can’t screw up an event rental business, but casual observation of our industry shows that this is not true. We think we’ve been lucky to have great employees, a growing market, some steady hands at the levers of the business, and of course some good fortune at key times. The main thing is that all of us love coming to work every day and genuinely care about the people we work with. This seems to have made the difference.

Can you tell us about an interesting or challenging project you and your team completed in 2023?

One project involving Aztec equipment comes to mind. We brought in the Aztec TimberTrac product to use at some of our destination wedding venues in the mountains. Our first install was at a ranch venue where they were so highly focused on the native grassland that they required an immediate install prior to the event and immediate tear down after the event. Fortunately, we had the resources to accommodate their request and our team made it happen. It wasn’t easy because, well, it never is. The customer was happy and that’s our focus. The pictures show that it worked well for the venue, planners and end users as well, and our team was happy to make it happen for our company, the venue manager, the wedding planner and, ultimately, the bride and groom.

What is your general outlook for 2024 and more specifically what is something Diamond Event is focused on this upcoming year?

We see 2024 as a good year, even with some uncertainty about the economy.  We’ve got strong early bookings and keep hearing positive things from our best customers. It doesn’t feel like a year where the world will fall apart.  But then again, it never does until it does …

How long have you been with Diamond Event and what is your favorite part about working in the rental industry?

I’ve been here over two decades which is always surprising to me when I slow down and think about it.  The years fly by! One reason they fly by is that in the rental industry every day is a new day, with new challenges and new opportunities. There is always change, there is always a new horizon to look over and see what’s coming. That makes it fun, keeps it interesting and brings so many of us back to the rental industry when the opportunity is presented. It’s a fun and interesting industry filled with fun and interesting people.

Frame Tents

Frame Tents feature a skeleton of aluminum framework and steel connectors to support the tent top. Although this style of tent is "free-standing" by design, it still must be anchored to resist wind forces. All styles of frame tents have no poles that come to the ground in the interior space of the tent.

Pole Tents

Pole tents rely on tension in the membrane to hold the shape of the tent system. These tents are supported by single or multiple centerpoles in the middle of the tent area and a series of sidepoles around the perimeter of the tent area. The tent is tensioned toward the anchoring locations commonly with a rope or ratchet strap.
