Customer Spotlight: Tri County Tent Rentals
Brendon Burch is the owner of Tri-County Tent Rentals out of Mechanicville, Maryland. What started out as a side business for his dad, turned into a career and passion for Brendon. He’s been leading the company since 2020 and continues to grow and exceed customer expectations at every turn. We recently spent some time with him as the 2026 season came to an end to hear his story and plans for the future.
You’re in a unique situation where your father was heavily involved in two businesses. What made you take over his “side hustle” business and turn it into your own?
Burch Oil is a well-known family business in the area, and I decided I wanted to make my own name. My dad had done tent rentals on the side, so I had a nice head start when I decided to run with it. Honestly, I’ve just always enjoyed being out there on tent installs. I was out there helping my dad as a kid and now, I’m leading almost every install for my own company.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from growing up alongside the business?
Without a doubt, treat people with respect. That goes for customers, vendors and employees.
Since you decided to make this business your focus, what two decisions have had the biggest impact on your growth?
The first thing that comes to mind is making a conscience effort to advertise. Word of mouth can only take you so far. Since we decided to make that a focus we saw an uptick in business. The second thing is making a commitment to put out a quality product. Being the younger guy in the market has given me the advantage of newer and better-looking tents. The other key is making sure the install is done right so everything looks perfect. I’m going to cheat and add a third… making sure that customer service always stands above the rest has always been a focus of ours.
I’m glad you just touched on marketing. In the last couple of years, you have incorporated a ton of video work into your marketing efforts; what led to that decision and how have you used it to reach new customers?
We innocently started filming some videos and one of my buddy’s has a drone so that took it to the next level. Everyone is on Facebook so posting those videos can go a long way. It has also been a great selling tool when trying to give brides and other customers inspiration. It shows them how we can transform a blank space into an awesome venue.
I know you are someone that is hungry and looking to grow; what do you find is the biggest challenge currently facing your company?
Right now, I’m a little too lean to take the next step. Ideally my next move would be to hire an office/sales manager that could handle the calls and customer interfacing. I feel like I lost some opportunities this season because I’m personally juggling too many tasks.
As the current season winds to a close, what are you most looking forward to in 2027?
I’m super excited to bring in a 59x Tidewater for next season. I always like the challenge of a new and/or bigger tent, and this one is next on the list. I already own a 44x Tidewater and 60x Series 2200 so I know I can handle it, but I can’t wait to get that thing in the air next spring.
If you had pass along some advice to a newer tent rental owner, what would it be?
Don’t overextend yourself and realize that your reputation is everything. If you do happen to overextend yourself, make sure you have some industry friends to help you out of the jam.
